Isaignani Illayaraja had already blamed that the audio companies are cheating both the music directors as well as the lyricist. Now, the young music director G.V. Prakash Kumar has brought this issue to media again. Produced by one of Tamil cinema’s popular film producer Chandraprakash Jain, A.L. Vijay has just completed directing the Vijay-Amala Paul starrer film Thalaivaa. After the completion of shooting, the film is now ready for release. When we asked about this to its producer Chandraprakash Jain, “All the works relating to the film Thalaivaa is complete. Vijay has put in a lot of effort for this film more than his previous films. Moreover, Vijay is one actor who is a great actor for the producers who are not cinematic. For three months, we erected a huge set in Mumbai and conducted the shooting there. We shot for many days in Australia too. In those days, Vijay came and participated in the shooting and acted whenever we wanted him to. He is one person who knows the pain of a producer. So, he very acted very carefully making sure that he is not wasting even a single penny of the producer unnecessarily. This film has all the components such as love, action, romance and comedy. We are planning to release this film as a Ramzan treat” he said.
Already the film was planned to be released on 15th of August, but now as it is now supposed to be released a bit early on 9th of August has come in as a surprise for the fans and so it has created a huge expectation. In between, there is a sudden clash between the film producer Chandraprakash Jain and the film’s music director G.V. Prakash along with the lyricist Madan Karki, N. Muthukumar and Thamarai. It seems that the audio rights of this film, is purchased by a popular audio company. This company, whenever they purchase the audio rights of a film, will generally get the music, song and all the digital rights along with it. Along with that they also say that they will give royalty to the producer according to the number of hits they receive in You Tube.
However, even though the music companies have purchased the rights similarly, did the producer get the royalty amount as per the agreement remains a big question mark..! In this situation, the popular company which bought the entire audio rights of the Vijay starrer Thalaivaa film had requested the music director G.V. Prakash Kumar to sign in the agreement which says that the music rights of this film is the complete ownership of the company. However, G.V.P refused to sign in that agreement. Similarly, the lyricist’s Madan Karki, N. Muthukumar and Thamarai too have refused to sign the agreement of ownership of the songs. They have also sent back the agreement papers sent by the producer.
In this circumstance, G.V. Prakash in his Twitter account had twitted that ‘the music companies should not take away the rights of the music composers. All the rights will be owned by the music directors only till the end’ and he has expressed his views and created a flutter. Already, you might remember Illayaraja giving a cheating complaint on a music company stating that ‘the company which saw huge money by telecasting my songs has cheated me by not giving me the royalty’.
At the same time when we enquired about this issue to the producer’s side, “When we place an agreement at the beginning itself it clearly denotes that all the rights including music and songs of a film are pure ownership of the producer. There is no need for us to give royalty to anybody. Mostly, they fail to give royalty only to the producers of a film. Apart from that, everyone who is working in a film is getting their salary as per their effort. Finally, producers are the one who are left helpless” they said. However it is, we feel that this issue will not reach a conclusion for the time being!
